Health First Reveals Design Plans for Wellness Villages

At the end of April, Health First and our Generis Collective team hosted the first public viewing of the plans for the Health First Wellness Villages for Brevard County residents and business owners.

The Health First villages, in Merritt Island and Melbourne, will provide modern acute care, complemented by retail and wellness-focused services.

The preliminary Merritt Island plan features a total of 828,000 square feet of development uses. Among them:

  • A seven-story, 320,000-square-foot hospital. The hospital pad will be elevated to provide protection from potential storm surge.
  • A 21,500-square-foot central utility plant containing heating, ventilation and air-conditioning equipment, as well as emergency generators.
  • 120,000 square feet of medical offices.
  • A 2,800-square-foot spa.
  • A 7,500-square-foot child day care center.
  • A 5,700-square-foot restaurant.
  • A 19,100-square-foot education center for health and wellness education.
  • A 2,900-square-foot coffee shop.
  • A 2,000-square-foot market/juice bar.
  • 5,800 square feet of mixed-use retail space.
  • A 700-square-foot concierge tower.
  • A 20,000-square-foot fitness center.
  • Two stories of enclosed parking, plus surface parking lots, totaling 947 spaces.
  • A helipad to handle helicopter landings and takeoffs for the transport of patients with serious medical conditions to the hospital’s emergency department or from there to another hospital.

The Merritt Island Wellness Village is located on top of the parking structure and will consist of the medical office building, child day care center, fitness center, coffee shop, education center, spa, retail, food hall, market/juice bar, event space, amphitheater and information tower. The wellness village also will contain landscaping and pedestrian walkways, as well as emergency, maintenance and event vehicle access.
