Wayfair, one of the world’s largest home retailers, has been working with Generis Collective to serve as a key partner to establish their flagship store experience.
Located outside of Chicago in Wilmette, IL, Wayfair Edens Plaza will be a 153,000-square-foot brick-and-mortar experience boasting 19 departments, ranging from furniture and decor to outdoor and home improvement. Developed alongside Gensler, Wayfair Edens Plaza is projected to open mid-2024.
Tying together the accessibility of modern retail with the innovation of immersive and interactive experiences, guests will have the opportunity to browse products, find inspiration for their home furnishings, and evaluate value and quality in-person. The venue will be an exciting opportunity for Wayfair to amplify its brand, increase customer base, deepen engagement, and grow market share.
Generis developed an “early involvement” general contracting strategy to get the Wayfair project underway, and then worked diligently to establish a system of timely procurement of long-lead building systems that reduced risk and increased project delivery predictability. As a retail prototype, Generis produced, procured, and managed a full-scale off-site mockup program for specialized casework, displays and technology systems. The Generis team also managed specialty contracts for custom displays, audio visual, signage, casework and more.
